A large veteran community and a distinct housing system
The U.S. Census Bureau reports 36,545 veterans in Cobb County and a 2020–2024 median gross rent of $1,730. The Marietta/Cobb Continuum of Care coordinates federal homelessness-response work separately from Gwinnett and DeKalb.
A private room, HUD-VASH voucher, emergency shelter bed, transitional program, and recovery residence each use a different admission path. Search results often blend them together; a referral should not.
What the 2024 point-in-time count tells us
HUD’s 2024 report for the Marietta/Cobb County Continuum of Care counted 418 people experiencing homelessness on January 25, 2024, including 150 people reported as unsheltered. The count is a one-night planning snapshot, not a complete annual total or a real-time vacancy list.
The value of the number is context: even in a county with established providers, the need extends beyond one program or one type of housing.
Veteran referrals may have official options
Some Cobb veterans may qualify for HUD-VASH or other VA-connected support. The Marietta Housing Authority explains that HUD-VASH referrals come through the VA. House of Hope cannot determine eligibility, promise a voucher, or present a private placement as equivalent to a federal program.
When an official resource applies, use it. A House of Hope fit conversation can happen alongside—never in place of—benefits and service coordination by authorized agencies.
Cross-county fit needs a transportation plan
